After spending over a decade in the world of youth ministry, I am shifting career paths and working towards teaching philosophy and religion at my local community college.
During my time in youth ministry, one of the most helpful tools I had at my disposal was my blog that I started in 2004 (you can view the archive of my youth ministry blog at MattCleaver.com/YouthMinistry). Writing on that site allowed me to clarify my thoughts, solicit public feedback, and meet people working in my field.
As I made the transition back to graduate school to study philosophy, I knew that I had to continue writing, only this time about philosophy, religion, and teaching. I expect that this medium will enhance my career as a professor just as it did as a youth minister.
I invite your feedback via comments or a post on your own blog, and you can always contact me directly using my contact form.
I attended John Brown University for my undergraduate degree in youth ministry and continued to take some graduate classes at Luther Seminary before deciding on my career change. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Dallas and live with my wife in Athens, Texas.
